No set of backstage photos taken on the Red Unit during
the 1970s would have been complete without at least one showing Gunther working
with a tiger. The accompanying text
tells something about his life and career, the various animals he worked with,
and even some of the injuries he suffered.

Under the tiger's chin you can
see 1 of the sets of footlights
I designed & created that were
self crated & had custom molded
glass roundels in pink & amber
They were hinged to disappear
into their custom travel crates
"Time it was...Oh what a time
it was...A time of innocence...
A time of consequences..."
Credit to Simon & Garfunkle
(not so sure about innocence)
I believe that's Dean McMurray
behind the arena on the right
The other might be a promoter
but I can't recall his name
When "Circus Williams" arrived
they immediately got the new
diamond pattern mesh arena but
the Blue Show struggled with
the old square tangle for years
until it went to CW in 74 just
for Gary to deal with
That might be me up that aisle
bent over looking for popcorn
boxes to recycle (or snow cups)
Might be Art Ricker in the vest
next to Dean McMurray
I remember Art, great guy.
I believe I read where Art has
a bed & breakfast with his wife
in Williamsburg Virginia near
"The Old Country" Busch park
Bill Powell could help us out
Why is the teeterboard there?
Isn't that the teeterboard that GGW used for the backward somersault to the elephant?
I seem to recall a trick where one tiger seated himself on the teeter board board then a second one leapt from his seat vaulting the first one off in some direction.
The only problem was, more often than not, the first tiger anticipated the impact and left prematurely.
Hated the one at Circus World worse than the Blue Show cage...because after the act all I had to do was pick up Jewells whips and grab his motorcycle and roll it out..:)
