Buckles: What was the name of the other elephant killed at this time? The 1942 Billboard census was no help- it called them Jumbo Lou and Two-Ton Tony.
I should have been clearer; the 1942 census did not INCLUDE these two elephants, merely referred to them by those names as having been killed the year before.
I don't have any other elephants listed for Lewis Bros..
In Slim Lewis' book he says two but doesn't list any names.
This is the story where Paul Lewis ran an ad in Billboard reading, "Bill Hart, Come home. All is forgiven."
Dave, As Buckles has pointed out, Sparks Alice was sold to the Lewis Bros. Circus in 1934. The Billboard reported the arrival of Tony in their March 30, 1940 edition on Page 32, thus the two elephants.
The local newspaper reports of the accident indicate the Paul Miller was killed along with Jumbo Lou and Two Tony Tony as you have indicated. I can only assume that the Billboard simply picked up what the local papers carried.

Bob: Billboard March 30, 1940 says 2½ year old "Tongo" arrived at Lewis WQ. This must be 2-Ton Tony, but I have zip on this Tongo.
Bob: At least I wrote down "Tongo" in my notes.
1941 was a bad year for elephants named Tony- the one with Robinson's Military Elephants also died that year- either on Wm Glick Shows or Ideal Exposition Shows (maybe the same outfit) depending on whether you are reading Marcks, Campbell, Conover or Chang.
