Before signing off, here are some frame enlargements from my two all-time
favorite Three Stooges comedies.
This first one is from Micro-Phonies, released in
1945. That’s the one where Moe tries to
pass off Curly as a singer by having him lip-sync to a recording of Strauss’
Voices of Spring that had been made earlier by Christine McIntyre
(who actually did her own singing.)
Hired to entertain at a party, Moe accidentally breaks the record just
before they are about to go on. Out of
necessity, the Stooges end up “singing” the famous Sextet from
Donizetti’s opera Lucia di Lammermoor and almost carry it off.
[Micro-Phonies was also one of Moe Howard’s personal
favorites.]

Fitted with new lyrics, the “Sextet from Lucia” was also used in the 1948 Three Stooges comedy SQUARE HEADS OF THE ROUND TABLE. That’s the one where troubadours Larry, Moe and Shemp serenade Christine McIntrye from below her balcony window as a means of sending her an urgent message.
