From Barbara

I thought this would be of interest about "The Three Stooges", as Ben used to hold of their dressing room keys and Curly's good cigar when they went in to work on some of the Dobritch dates we played in 1961.

This would be Curly Joe DeRita. Was he a blood relative?

The Stooges made their last 2-reel comedy for Columbia in 1957. When their contract wasn’t renewed, Moe considered retiring. Then, in 1958 their old films were made available to television and they suddenly became very much in demand for personal appearances and movie work. (Reportedly, they were able to command $25,000 for a single appearance, making them one of the highest paid live acts of the early 1960s.) Smokey once told me that he saw them perform at a fair date and that, without the sound effects heard in the movie shorts, their act wasn’t quite as effective.
