Rick,
Dolly was a Children's Zoo special from the Brookfield Zoo in Chicago. I was only able to track her as far as Singh and the Greater American Free Circus out of Kentucky from 1965 to 1969. Do you know if she died or was sold ?i

I remember Dolly was getting to big.Because of the size of the show.Singh had a pony ride at the time and a nasty Chimp named Wendy[named after Chicago]and Dolly.I remember that the show played pretty much just the Chicagoland area, and would come North very early. So I would guess that Dolly was traded if she didn't catch cold.I'll ask my Mom if she rememders. But I remember her getting awful large and think she outgrew the show

Ryan,I talked to Mom.She said that it was probably the other way around, that she went to Brookfield after she outgrew the show. She said back then the zoo would never have let go [if they even had a baby] back then. She said they[baby] were inported and that's also why they were bottle fed.She wasn't positive, but was pretty sure.

Thanks Rick but it was a very common occurrence for zoos to acquire a baby elephant for their Children's Zoo. Once it outgrew the area, it was traded it to a dealer for another small animal. Once in a while they would keep the elephant and incorporate it into the main elephant exhibit. Quite a few zoos followed the practice, including Toledo, Pittsburgh, St. Louis, San Diego, Milwaukee and Indianapolis, to name a few.

Touchy subject with Mom as she was not found of Singh[We all loved him]But there were 2 more punks that showed up when Dolly was about 3 or 4.One Died from a cold and the Head was givin to the field museum and the feet were givin to my Dad ,Rex , the Taxidermist and Singh.Maybe she was traded then.
