1949 -51 Kelly-Miller #1

"Kelly-Miller Circus Alva, Missouri 1949."

This is the earliest picture I have of my Dad taken shortly after his arrival on the show.
I hadn't seen the show yet, I was back in Jr. High after closing with Robbins Bros.
He had a big winter ahead with a lot of young elephants to train that the show had imported.
"Sally", "Jenny", "Kay", "Hattie", "Barbara", "Anna May", "Hazel" and "Norma".

How often or how frequently did he use the long handled bull hook seen in this photo? Did you ever use one? What are its advantages/disadvantages? As you know, these were more common in the 19th century. I know your father was a historian but didn't take it to these limits?!
