A poster for Sands, Nathan & Co's steam calliope pulled by six elephants and note the steam boiler in the locomotive-like vehicle behind it. This is 1858, one year after the calliope first appeared on a circus. This is a beautifully lithographed poster by one of the best printers of the time, Sarony, Major & Knapp.
