A close examination of this ballerina reveals that she
was put together from a pair of dividers, a funnel, a small light bulb, and two
safety pins. Her curl is a pipe cleaner
and the “ruffle” on her skirt is the coil from a spiral notebook. According to the article, by photographing
her one frame at a time, and changing her position between exposures, Mr.
Wronkow created the illusion of her whirling around on one leg. (This same “stop
motion” technique was used to film the original KING
KONG.)
