Pat's Painted Ponies #7

Two more Allan Herschell horses that had most likely been used on portable carousels. We were never able to determine when exactly there two figures were carved, but we’re guessing that it was sometime between 1915 and 1930, before the Herschell Company started using aluminum parts for its horses. (Eventually, the company’s horses were made entirely of aluminum.)

Allan Herschell’s wooden carousel horses left the factory shod with metal horseshoes of an appropriate size. The shoes for our horses (along with some of their legs) had disappeared ages ago. When they reassembled our horses, the Case Bros. had carved new legs as needed. We replaced the original horseshoes with modern replicas, which were being made specifically for people restoring old carousel figures.
