Parisian Show Posters #1 (From Eric Beheim)

The late 1800s and early 1900s are generally considered as the “golden age” of the Art Nouveau advertising poster. The Paris-based artists who created these posters included such famous names as Henri Toulouse-Lautrec, Jules Cheret and Alfons Mucha who, disregarding all the rules, created a revolutionary new look for Parisian outdoor advertising that lasted up to World War I. Here are a few examples of the advertising posters that were used for Parisian circuses and theater productions.

Today, posters like these are collected and displayed as works of fine art.

Wasn’t there a Frenchman character in animated cartoons called Toulouse-Screwloose?
