Thailand #1 (From Vincent Manero)

Here are a few shots that I took during my stay in the Chiang Mai area. Very interesting city with many Buddhist Temples to discover. Elephants are represented almost everywhere and are the symbol of this country. However no live Elephant within the city limits as the authorities banned them a few years ago.
We spent also a few days in a Karen Elephant camp in the mountains near the Doi Inthanon national Park. I have been assigned the 45 y.o. bull « Phuu Sii » who started his career in the logging industry. Quite amazing to see the dexterity of this animal as we lead the group of seven Elephants in the forest. Great experience !

Vincent--This is a very impressive animal. A few questions are as follows: weight, height, and age, please,
THANKS for sharing. Looks as if you had quite an experience.

Jim, he is 45 years old about 11-12 feet high. I'm not sure about his weight but I guess around 6 tons. One of the females was around 60 years old and did all the walks uphill and downhill like a teenager. These Elephants are very well trained.

Buckles: 45 is getting on in elephant age and don't this fellows ears tend to lead credence to your comment about ears folding over as the animal ages?

Buckles said...

That's true but in some cases it's the result of having been bitten.

I'd like to see the bull that might have bitten this guy...BIGGG.
