Horse of the Year Show! #4

Over the years, the Band of the Royal Corps of Transport made several recordings of the music it played for Horse of the Year Show events such as the “Musical Drive of the Heavy Horses” “Pony Club Mounted Games,” “Police Horse of the Year,” “Horse Personalities Parade,” etc. As we all know, musical tastes have changed over the years, so it is probably safe to assume that the pre-recorded music being used today is quite different in character from what is heard on the HOTYS recordings made 30 or more years ago.

The Band of the Royal Corps of Transport also recorded an album of Gilbert & Sullivan music titled “Gilbert & Sullivan on Parade.” The Gilbert & Sullivan album’s liner notes mentioned that the band had also recorded several albums of music from the Horse of the Year Show, which is how I first learned about it. Eventually, all three of the HOTYS albums turned up on eBay, which is how I was able to acquire them from sellers in Great Britain.
