Horse of the Year Show! #3

For over 40 years, live music for The Horse of the Year Show was performed by the Band of the Royal Corps of Transport, seen here playing for the “Musical Drive of the Heavy Horses.” (It was said that one could follow what was going on in the arena just by listening to the band.) Today, pre-recorded music is used.

In 1993 the Royal Corps of Transport was combined with four other British Army corps to form The Royal Logistic Corps. The Band of the Royal Corps of Transport is now known as the Band of the Royal Logistic Corps. A very excellent history of the Band of the Royal Corps of Transport is contained in A MUSICAL RIDE by Steve Ambler, who was a member of the band from 1964 to 1983. If you are the least bit interested in British military bands, this book is for you. Copies are available on eBay.

Eric: RCMP "A Musical Ride" at the 2007 Big E. They were a huge success.
