Does anybody know if all these steel trusses came from the sail loft building (former Sarasota winter quarters) building. Or also from the other buildings there. (the main building frame looks about the size of the original shop building)
It looks like the roof trusses from the sail loft were used to make the side roof extensions. (bolted to the main rectangle structure) The solf loft was the former grandstand at the county fairgrounds. The county gave the fairgrounds to the circus if they would move the circus there from Bridgeport, Conn. During the 20's-30's-40's, the circus winterquarters was the biggest draw in the state. p.j.
I was told that the structure was
pieced together from 3 different
Sarasota WQ buildings by Lloyd Sr
whose sister married Felder Houser
that ran the County Fair Ass. for
many years & was involved in the
contruction of Robarts Arena
Thanks Chic for the information. The frame work in front of the rectangle building is the train shed from Sarasota with the quonset type roof.
