According to Arthur Godfrey’s voice-over commentary, at the time the TV Special was taped, Hugo Schmitt was recovering from an injury but was expected to rejoin the show later. The elephant act music heard during the broadcast was “Entry of the Gladiators,” “Beer Here,” “The Clarinet Polka,” “Popcorn and Lemonade” (from the DeMille film) and an original song “Polka Dot Polka.” (Harold Ronk later recorded “Polka Dot Polka” for his solo album “A Day at the Circus with Mr. Singing Ringmaster.”)
