Martin & Osa Johnson #24



In 1932, the Johnsons learned to fly. Once they had their pilot’s licenses, they purchased two Sikorsky amphibious airplanes, which they named “Spirit of Africa” and “Osa’s Ark.” On their fifth African trip, undertaken in 1933-1934, they flew the length of Africa . . .

As recall the Johnsons were the first people to fly over Mt Kilimanjaro. If I recall correctly they were part of or in regular contact with at least one of George Eastman's African safaris and he was very involved with their film and cameras.
