I MARRIED ADVENTURE was the best-selling non-fiction book of 1940. Over the years, it was reprinted numerous times and is still in print today! Copies of early editions sell for BIG bucks on the collector’s market and AUTOGRAPHED copies sell for REALLY BIG bucks.
Osa Johnson remains a contradiction for the politically correct crowd. On one hand, she was an early role model for women: a successful author, explorer/naturalist, photographer, pilot, and film producer who shared equally in the rigors, inconveniences and dangers of a life of high adventure in exotic, faraway lands. On the other hand, there are those who believe that the Johnsons’ films exploit and belittle the animals and natives that appear in them, and that Osa’s books and articles (written 70 or more years ago) express attitudes and beliefs and are condescending and politically incorrect.
As noted above, I MARRIED ADVENTURE contains the very best scenes from the Johnsons’ documentaries. Its commercial success prompted RKO to release JUNGLE CAVALCADE the following year. (JUNGLE CAVALCADE contains the very best scenes from the three Frank Buck documentaries: BRING ‘EM BACK ALIVE, WILD CARGO and FANG AND CLAW.)
Just purchased the Frank Buck "Cavalcade" DVD.
Enjoyed watching.. but will spare the BLOG stills from the DVD!!
klsdad "on safari..."
The Safari Museum in Chanute used to sell an "I Married Adventure" T shirt. Over the years it proved to be good for a number of pleasant conversations with total strangers.
A wonderful book!
