Did Fred always use a long bullhook? I don't think I ever saw him without one working bulls? Thanks for a Great spread..someone on fb asked me about the orginal photo so I sent it to you.:)
Freddy started out with the Conklin Shows in his native Canada. His first job was with the Terrell Jacobs Animal Show where he worked for my dad. At seasons end he was smuggled into the States behind the tiger cages in a baggage car. He once told me that he worked for a while for Endy Bros. Shows and from there to the Ringling show. He mentioned that while standing in line applying for a job, the fellow standing next to him turned out to be bob Dover Bob Dover who went to work in Ringstock as a pony punk while Logan wound up in the menagerie dept. and soon was moving props in May Kovar's cat act. It wasn't long before the Feds showed up and informed him that if he remained in the country he would be subject to the Draft and they were right, not long after that he was on Destroyer in the Pacific.
