In the 1965 book, FACING THE BIG CATS, there is a photo very similar to this credited "from the collection of Robert D. Good." I'm presuming he was the photographer, as many great shots in the fan magazines are Bob Good photos. Same cats in the shot, and same angle, so I'm content that Bob Good was clicking away that day at Beatty's Jungle Zoo, in Ft. Lauderdale.
After Dave Hoover died, Jim Cole got Lois to let me have a number of Beatty items he had saved. Among them is an 8 by 10 of this pose stamped on the back, "Photography by Whitey."
Of course the print could be a second generation or copy and this Whitey person is certainly not the Whitey we all know and love.
"When Clyde was doing the book he had the pic and he told my Dad he did not know where it came from but he would give my Dad credit for it.
"Yeah, my Dad was not at the zoo. The photo may have been in my Dad's collection and Clyde saw it, not sure anymore. I always thought it was a great shot.
"I think I remember them talking about the photo in the circus room. So, yeah it was probably in the collection but my Dad did not take the pic."
Bob Good's photos were well respected and printed extensively in the circus press. I did note the line read "from the collection of...", and without specific credit given, my presumption, if inaccurate, was well intended. From subsequent comments, we see we still don't have a name credit.

I'm not aware that Mr Good was ever at the Jungle Zoo. I wish young Bob could get on this blog and respond to things like this.

Bob Good, Jr asked me to post this for him:
