Ah, the fleeting of fame. Nobody picked up on Frank J. Walter. Ultra-rich Houston oilman. Staged a kiddie circus there. Fan and friend of Clyde Beatty. Mother Walter had her household staff keep a bedroom ready for Beatty in their mansion, and a shiny new car for him in the garage. No one could sleep in the room or drive the car except Clyde Beatty, and both were maintained in top condition year round just for his brief annual visits. Frank Walter was instrumental in helping his friend realize the Clyde Beatty Jungle Zoo in Ft. Lauderdale, which opened December 2, 1939.
