The Bronx Zoo #2

The film opens with some shots of the Rainey Memorial Gates, created by noted American sculptor, Paul Manship. These gates were given to the Zoo by Mrs. Grace Rainey Rogers as a memorial to her brother, Paul Rainey, a generous patron of the Bronx Zoo.

Eric, as someone who grew up no more than 2 miles from the Bronx Zoo, I thank you for this nice set of stills. I joined the then NY Zoological Society 58 years ago and have spent countless happy hours there wish I had known about CFA back then.
Let's hope we get some comments from Richard Reynolds.

Paul,

This is a favorite film from my collection. Coming up as part of this series will be some nice scenes with Helen Martini and her foster tiger cubs, so stay tuned!

Eric:
Thanks again. I never met Helen Martini, but did have the pleasure of conversing with her husband Fred a couple of times, very quiet man as I recall. As a child I can still remember going into the old Lion House (now a Madagascar exhibit) and seeing her in a cage bottle feeding various cubs. As I'm sure you must know her book, "My Zoo Family" is a delightful read about a wonderful, dedicated couple.

I took a bunch of pretty decent shots o the Rainey gate years ago; if I can find them I'll send Buckles a couple.

Best, paul
