Pork Chop Revue

Speaking of Bobby Nelson, he later had a pig act for many years.
They must be pretty smart since he once told me that since they got so big so fast, he would break in a new set of piglets each year.

Back in my days on Mills Bros. Mrs. Reed [Adele] visited when we were close to her home in New York state and introduced herself and between shows she invited me to her home. At the back of her property was a railroad spur that they would haul the elephants on "dates" in a "Baggage car" and in fact the baggage car was still parked there. It was privately owned by them. The never had truck trans. and in fact Mr. Reed could not drive. She advised me that son Bobby kept the pigs in the baggage car and trained them in there as well. He was a single guy and lived with her when not on the road with pigs. I note seeing him on Polack and some other places. Later his cousin Paul would get involved in Pig Acts as well.Bobby liked to "tip a few". johnny

I, too, remember visiting her in Chatham, NY, about 1972. By then she was living in a little trailer and her son briefly coming by. It was in the evening after dark so I never saw a baggage car if it was still there. She was a chipper gal and quite petite. In particular, I remember her telling me about being a kid on the Ringling show in the 1890s (she was born in 1889). She recalled how Mr. Al would come by the train in his buggy and pick up all the little kids so they didn't have to make the long walk to the lot.
