Who was this Roxy person Chic.johnny
The genius behind New York's
celebrated Radio City Music Hall
Roxy, opened his first movie house
in a bar in Pennsylvania, with
films ordered from New York and
delivered on the milk train.
(The 250 chairs were removed if
the local undertaker needed them)
He later moved to New York and
managed a string of well known
theaters the Strand, the Rialto,
the Rivoli, the Capitol and his
own creation, "the cathedral of
the motion picture", the Roxy
Theater which opened in 1927.
With his innovative approach to
theater, combining vaudeville,
movies and razzle-dazzle décor,
this unusual impresario attracted
John D. Rockefeller Jr. to a plan.
In a bold move, shortly after the
Wall Street Crash in 1929, the two
men joined financial might and
grand vision to design the largest
indoor theater in the world,
Radio City Music Hall in New York.
The world famous "Rockettes" from
"Radio City Music Hall" were named
the "Roxyettes" when they were 1st
created as the kick line for the
"Roxy Theater" & changed their name
when they were relocated to "RCMH"
to honor Rockefeller
Great info, chic and beautiful cars.
