From Chris Berry #2

Barnum & Bailey Dutch Litho #2
This lithograph is another that was produced for the tour of Holland in 1901. The artwork on this Strobridge litho - like the one above - was created with German text, and English - which was used during the tour of the United States, prior to the show leaving for Europe in 1898. (Poster is part of the circus collection at the Teyler Museum in Haarlem, Netherlands)

Chris: These look as if they had been posted on a wooden shed or something and that the sections might have been sawed off and kept as they were. Is this the case?

Howard Tibbals once told me a firm named Bien had done some of the lithos for B&B in Europe and had reproduced the Strobridge artwork; could these be examples?

Whitey - I agree with you that they do look like they were pasted to 2x4s or some sort of lumber.

As for Bien - I believe that they did work for Buffalo Bill in France...not sure about Barnum & Bailey. What I do know is that the Courmont Bros litho company of Paris (courmont Freres) was authorized by both Strobridge and Courier to reproduce some of their artwork - examples of which survive today...
