The caption for these photos (published in the June 27, 1931 issue of THE LAST WORD) reads: “Large crowds and splendid art breaks in the Los Angeles’ papers greeted this stunt of Publicity Director Bill Thomas at the Pantages Hollywood Theater. The elephants from Franchon and Marco’s CIRCUS DAYS Idea, were paraded down to a local auto wash laundry where they were given a good watery going-over.” [Franchon and Marco produced the stage shows that toured the Fox Theater circuit in the early 1930s.] |
