He was there with the former Tom Packs elephants then owned by Rudy Jacoby. I'm a little foggy on the timing. |

BUCKLES: Thank you for this history of Arky. He was among the most beloved figures at the Compound in Thousand Oaks. Arky once told me he didn't know how old he was, as he had a very hardscrabble early life and never saw a birth certificate. But if we can rely on his death records from Ventura County, California, we have this:
Born: 8 August 1905 - Louisiana
Father & Mother: Unknown
Cause of death: Cardiovascular collapse - Due to: Metastatic bronchogenic carcinoma
Died: 11 April 1968 - Age: 62
Burial: 15 April 1968, Pacific Coast Showmans Rest, Evergreen Cemetery, Los Angeles, California
Tragically, just five days after Arky's funeral, Mabel Stark was found dead at her home, 20 April 1968, of an overdose of barbiturates.
May they rest in peace.
