From Mike Naughton

Thought you'd be interested in this photo of Herriott's Trained Animal Circus taken in at the Orange County Fair in Middletown, New York, circa mid 1980's.
Herriotts had a very long route of fairs; the show worked rain or shine which delighted the fair managers, especially on those drizzly days.

Bill Johnston told me when he was on this show, he went around and drove every stake alone. He did so, he said, by always having good wind. For sure, he was among the hardiest men I've known around shows. He was in his prime for those 17 years with Pat Anthony, and took pride in being able to load the act by himself. I was one of the few he ever let help, but I knew to catch him in the right frame of mind before offering.

Yes it is the swame trailer, only reworked and painted, plus the two wagons were also redone by my friend Brownie in Jacksonville. He is now 100 yrs. old. Great guy and friend. Tentis the same, but we redid the seats. W#as the last canvas-cable top Leaf made. Johnny

For many years the Orange County

Fair was run by Al Bulldog Howard

who had been a partner in the

How-Reit unit of Reithoffer Shows

The fair bought a good amount of

street lighting from the 63-64 NY

World's Fair in Flushing Meadow

It all had to be converted from

the "new" electric (277 volts)

The Rix's farm is not far away
