From Chris Berry #5

From Chris Berry - Chicago Stadium - 1937

After the New York stand, Cole Bros traveled to Chicago, where it again set up at the Chicago Stadium - and once again it was up against a simultaneous booking of Hagenbeck-Wallace across town. This is the special Cole Bros. program book that was only used for that date in 1937. The Great Depression caused severe financial problems for the show in the summer of 1937, and on August 11 it closed early in Scottsville, Missouri.

I thought it was in 1938 when Cole closed early????
I know they played Texas in 1937 and did great and had a great year.
They did so great in 1937 they planned another circus for 1938 and it was Robbins Bros with Hoot Gibson.
Any comments from you great circus historians is greatly appreciated.

Harry - you are of course 100 percent correct. I don't know what I was thinking when I wrote that about 1937. Not only was a terrific Route Book put together after that tour - but it was a season that took Cole Bros to not only New York and Chicago - but also Los Angeles and a series of dates in Canada. Thanks for keeping me honest Harry (and if we can't go that far at least thanks for pointing out the facts). As they say in the New York Times: "The author regrets the error".
