The performance for Patton had its desired effect and U.S. troops crossed over into Czechoslovakia and rescued the mares before the Russians could get to them.

In 1940, M-G-M released FLORIAN, a film about a Lipizzan stallion from Vienna’s Spanish Riding School that gets caught up in World War I. (A photo-summary of this film was posted on Buckles Blog back in July 2009. Look for it in the archives.) Those that enjoyed the recent movie WAR HORSE whil probably enjoy this one, too.
