One of the Nubian giraffes was named “Nageoma” by Helen Grosvenor ( shown in this photo), who was the granddaughter of NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC’s editor Gilbert Grosvenor. (NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC had helped to finance the expedition.) Although the name sounds like it might be African, it was actually derived from NAtionalGEOgrphicMAgazine. |
