Mr. Cole I agree with you as I sure miss the old Beatty Cole band. I heard Pugh say years ago that it cost him over $400,000. Even King Bros with a few pieces sounded great and played many of the old tunes. Harry in Texas
You can still hear live authentic traditional circus music at the gatherings of Windjammers Unlimited. Your next chance will be in Florida in January when the group convenes in the Sarasota area from January 17 to 22.
The Windjammers (and the Peru band) sure do a good job, but it's not quite the same as a 7 or 8 piece mud show band playing circus music at twice the speed it was written. Sure glad there were fans who made tape recordings of these bands!
Jimmy Cole, I was recording show bands and shooting still pictures as well for many years till it all came to and end on mud shows. I always asked first and was always told sure go ahead. I had my sony reel to reel and electovoice mircrphones and turned it on and let it rip. Jerry Braa let me plug into his tape recorders to make a copy of Vargas. While I was visiting Vargas when Roland Kiser had it he told Jerry to crawl into a trailer and gave me one of those old tape recorders. There were only 5 to start with and I have the last one in my collection. It is great to listen to those show bands with all that great show music from the past. Boom Boom Browning gave me some of his personel Beatty Cole recordings. I got to know Boom Boom through Bubba Voss that lived in Orange, Texas. Great shows and great live real circus music. What a shame that circuses today don't carry a band! But I guess it would just be too expensive, and where would you find the musicians?
Want to hear a great circus band?
Go the the Peru Amateur Circus held in July!
Aren't there some big Shrine dates
that still have live music
Yes there are,but there is a lot of electronics in the band, much like Ringling.
There's nothing quite like the sound of an all brass mud show band playing some genuine Karl King!

I wonder how many of these Windjammers Slammed a Cold one and burned a Cigarette during the Peanut-pitch?...
