From Richard Reynolds #2

Is this an African or Indian crested or short tailed? Whatever, a good sized animal.

Ms Vidbel's capybara is certainly a new twist. I've never heard of one in a circus performance before. He could be billed as the "The Largest Rat on Earth." As you know, it is indeed the largest of all rodents. It can weigh upwards of 200 pounds, 4 ft long and stand 2-feet high. What is good for circus use is that they are not endangered and are quit gentle.

With the public's general revulsion toward them, rats have a natural appeal for the bombast of the circus PR folks. "Giant rat" shows have been seen often, usually as a side show or pit show attraction like this on the Dailey Bros Circus in the 1940s - -
