I would have to dig out a program to spell his name correctly, but phonetically it was Damoo Dohtre, from India. Very nice man. I did the leapord act in 1946 with the show girls , about 6 of them, standing around and under the cats when they jumped. I remember the girls saying, more than the fear was the terrible smell of the cat dong. Jackie LeClaire Pat Walsh, with a car on her shoulders was cover girl for the program that year. Always remember her as she graciously but not harmlessly plucked my eye brows that year I worked both Gardens as a woman. Jackie LeClaire
You're right, Jackie, the spelling is Damoo. I had trouble pronouncing his last name, Dhotre. Both historian Leonard Farley and colleague Willy Storey told me it is DOHT-r.
Damoo is certainly among the top-tier trainers, and with his stunning ring appearance, he was a credit both to his native India, and to every show on which he appeared.

Check out his autobiography, WILD ANIMAL MAN.
