Ring Of Fear Synopsis #35

Produced on a much more modest budget than the DeMille film, and with nary an A-list actor in its cast, RING OF FEAR didn’t earn the same huge profits as TGSOE. Assuming that a percentage of the film’s earnings went to the Beatty Circus, it was not sufficient to help carry the show through its 1956 season. Seen today, the film has great historical value because of its documentary footage of the Clyde Beatty Circus. John Wayne’s Batjac production company recently made RING OF FEAR available in a “newly restored” DVD version that is inexpensive enough so that everyone can own their own copy and watch it as often as they like.

Once again, we are indebted to the many people who posted comments, photos, etc. related to this film. And once again, special thanks is due to Buckles for finding the space for some 126 frame captures in addition to all of the other interesting circus-related items which were submitted to him while this series was running.

A very special vote of thanks,
ERIC, to you and your genius son, who can isolate and present these frames of indelible significance.

And another hearty thanks to BUCKLES and SHANNON, the father and son team who master this site, equally indelible to loyal readers.

I recall the movie "Africa screams" with Beatty also in an acting role. He was not much of a dialogue actor with his midwestern accent, etc. He couls sure act in the cage with his cats but in those movie roles he was not so good. He sure looked the part. But then again John Wayne was a lousy actor in every way. Maybe that is what made him so good. Then we get to see Paul Newman and To Hanks who are the epitimee of movie acting par excellence. I believe that movie acting was not Beattys cup of tea, but the scratch sure made it worth while. Like Gunther I believe he was uncomfortable doing interviews, etc.tanglefoot
