This beloved artist, with a makeup perfect for his face and personality, was born George Anthony Hulme, in Boston, on January 22, 1900. The nickname "Bumpsy" also fit him well, as in his developing years he took hard pratfalls as a tumbler. He soloed in vaudeville with a well-received break-away bicycle, getting a reprieve from repetitive falling that later caused him severe arthritis.
Over 62 years, Bumpsy worked all the top shows. He was married in 1931 to Eva Hannah of the Hannah Triplets, aerial and menage performers. Born to them was a daughter, Iva May, and a son, William Hulme. Clippings from 1986invited showfolks to visit him at the Seahorse Mobile Park, in St. Augustine. By 1989, a notice told of his hospitalization there from a stroke. On January 12, 1989, he passed to the Big Lot, at 88.
