This was a good looking trackless

train that was toooo big for the

building & it's intended route

"The Day The Circus Came To Town"

In the "Circus Day Theater" yup

Some of us were so distracted by

the gold costume that we never

cared about the train

No one could have worn it better

Was Turk the name of the horse? I have amazing memories of Barbra on horseback presenting a ring of elephants: This horse was a little cautious on the slick concrete floor of the wings but anxious as the energy surged with the Ringmasters announcement. I recall Barbra spiting her hard candy to the trunk of the lead elephant just before the act charged into the spotlight. When Turks shoes found the footing of the rubber arena’s floor the greatest show on earth was presented to the luck few who were there to witness. This is one of the scenes that I have saved in my head from when I was twenty years old in 1976, I am sure life has enhanced the story, and I may have the particulars completely wrong, but I am going to keep what is in my head.
I have driven this train back stage to make way for the lion shoots, but I declined being trained to drive it in the show because it crashed into the doors all of the time. The train did not track well because it was built on stage trailers with two pivoting axels. Today we call them Myers trailer and I tug them around all the time at Disney. I can back them into and around almost anything, but this talent has ruined any ability that I may have had to back tradition trailers.

I rest my case Little John

The running gear for the train

cars were from airport baggage

carts that had coupled steering

I guess that's what you refer to

The intent was for them to follow

the same track as the power unit

instead of cutting corners

As you know it takes some getting

used to in order to pull them

The doors weren't the only things

the train ran into

AIRPORT BAGGAGE CARTS!!! That explains everything. See what happens when the Venice airport leaves their carts too close to the winterquarters fence line! ~frank

You guess is pretty close to the

way they were procured Frank

Actually the running gear was

taken from some wrecked & rusty

carts from Newark airport with

2 versions of invoices prepared

I had nothing to do with any of

the original show equipment by

the way as I was only there as

an advisor at first until the

turnover when a group of us

were brought in to implement

as many of the I & K elite's

revisions as the meager funds

would then allow (not much)

My primary involvement was to

improve the show's lighting

which was quite difficult as

much of the equipment purchased

was top quality but incorrectly

chosen by position & placement
