From Jerry Digney #1

Recently received a copy of the Boston Garden's 50th anniversary (1978) souvenir program; featured is an article on the RBBB circus which first appeared there in April, 1929, and every year since, and also a shot of the modern circus from the "nose bleed" section. Set up very similar to Madison Sq. Garden with additional stages. I don't think that most of the newer buildings have the same expansive footprint--barely room for three rings and a decent size track. the old, crusty Boston Garden (now torn down), above the North Station train terminal, is where I embarked on my first circus job. Coincidentally, that same year, while working after school at age 18 as a radio announcer, I interviewed George Hamid (then in his 70s?) as he was prepping to open his Hamid police circus date at the Boston Arena--which I think he had for years.

We can forgive the historic inaccurasies in this story, but even so it should not be accepted as a historical document. far from it. tanglefpoot

In the winter of 1968, Irvin Feld and I met with Walter Brown, the CEO of Boston Garden, to discuss our Boston engagement.

Irvin predicted to Walter that we would increase our pre-Feld, 1967, gate by an astronomical amount.

Mr.Brown was quite skeptical!

To Walter's joy, we more than achieved Irvin's prediction!!

That old North Station area was quite colorful at night.
