From Jack Ryan

Buckles,Saturday in Peru, IN, I was asked to ride in the Circus Festival Parade as I was being inducted into the Hall of Fame that evening. They provided a classic, beautiful red Mercedes Benz convertible to transport me. About half way down Main Street, the car totally died. I mean DIED. To finish the parade, was provided a golf cart. Ken Young (who nominated me to the Hall) and I continued waving and having a great time. Something to be said for seeing where you've been and not where you're going.

Congratulations to Mr.Jack Ryan and Mr.Norman Barrett on your recent honors.Sounds like the Circus parade staff spared no expense in creating an authentic circus parade experience
with a breakdown and all.
I eagerly anticipate Mr.Herriot's input on the efforts put forth in this edition of Peru's annual grand pageantry.
PS.I sure hope I will be able to catch this event one of these years. Always sounds like lots of fun.

You were fortunate. A couple years back I received the same honer. Flying up I went to ICHOF a day or two early. Director advised me that Hall of fame was not involved in the parade only some wagons would be used, so no parade for me. Went on parade day and saw VIP seat wagon on street and went up to at least sit down and whren usher confronted me I mentioned that I wasw to be inducted in Hall of Fame. Told me I couldn't sit there just as Dorothy Kelly and son were being seated. In embarrassment I climbed down and with Buddy Dick Kohlreiser was standing on the corner now watching parade unfold. Toward the very end were wagons with Hall of fame banners attached to their side anbd John Fugate in wardrobe waving with performers and other Hall of fame folks aving a granbd time and the loverly Jill Pages riding in trapezed on the GSOE Betty Hutton wagon. What a shock especially when the Director had especially made known that HOF was not involved in any aspect of parade. The banquet was rubber chick in a little tent on muddy hof grounds and induction [I was the only that year inductee that even showed up] was in tent where Director handed me a cheap plaque. What a let down. I even wonder if my photo is shoved in along with some others in a number of those inductee cases. Nobody ever asked me for any photos or bio history. The Ring Of Fame here in Sarasota has done wonderful induction of me and others over the years including the permanent monument on St Armonds Circle. Also the ceebrity series at Ringling Museum each year does a superb job. So be it. I intended to give HOF a beautiful painting done of me and my horse by noted artist Jim Howle, but that is certainly scratched. I sense an ulterior motive for the above but hard to believe. so be it. Johnny. Incidentally I went to accept for Buckles [he could be there] and again it was the same shabby presentation. Too bad. John Herriott. Dunwoody was the Directors name. Guess he, his wife and Fugate run the joint.
