Third elephant rider back is the sister of my Sarasota landlady Pat Warner Lombardi.....Pat after the 56 closing of RBBB work the front desk for many years at the Golden Host Hotel in Sarasota.....So many pictures of Pat were taken in the early 50's until the 56 closing..Pat was and OHIO girl hired by Pat Valdo. I have a copy of the letter from Pat Valdo to Pat outlining salary and winterquater rehearsal details...
[Sebastian almost drives his car into the elephant Angel is riding] ANGEL: Hey! Don't crowd, mister! Can't you see an elephant or do I have to paint her red?
----- Last line in the movie, a voice over: That's all, ladies and gentlemen, that's all. Come again to the greatest show on earth. Bring the children. Bring the old folks. You can shake the sawdust off your feet, but you can't shake it outta your heart. Come again, folks. The Greatest Show on Earth. Come again.
DeMille’s original choice for the role of Angel was Lucille Ball. When the film was ready to be cast, however, Lucy was pregnant and unavailable. (All things considered, Gloria Grahame was a better Angel than Lucy could ever have been.) Both Burt Lancaster and Kirk Douglas were considered for the role of Sebastian. (Lancaster would have been an ideal choice since he had a circus background and would have been much more at ease handling the aerial action. It is well-known that Cornel Wilde was afraid of heights and that DeMille gave him a bad time on the set while filming his aerial scenes.
Pat Warner Lombardi's elephant was BABE......There were three sisters from Lancaster, OH. Two of three sisters were hired by Pat Valdo...Pat bought property across from Bobby Jones Golf Course with Ringling and Golden Host earnings not far from Winter Quarters....Next door neighbor in the 90's and early 2000's was Gene Scott, Arky's son.....Gene later sold his property and moved further south of Sarasota..I have lost track of Gene...

And many of us STILL haven't shaken it out of our hearts! ~frank
(Edmund O'Brien was the barker at the end of the film.)
Yanno Frank, I think there's a bit of sawdust in my eye too.
Arky is working the wrong side of his elephant for the convenience of the shot but notice he supplied Angel with a hook of her own.
One of you car guys give us an ID on Sebastian's ride.
