From Chris Berry #1

Buckles,

I had a terrific visit with Ryan Henning as the Ringling Red unit was loading-in at the US Airways Center in Phoenix on Tuesday. Ryan is the grandson of the late circus historian Robert Parkinson and his widow Marilyn. In addition to his work with the elephants over the past seven years, Ryan is often the face of the Red Unit for interviews and news stories, and frequently responds in the media to charges from PETA and other animal rights groups.

"Loading-in"
I'll have to add this to my list of circus oxymorons.

The terms load (or loading) in &

likewise load (or loading) out

have been used by folks in the

legitimate theater for more than

a century & other more colorful

expressions include drag in & out

The "drag" terms come from the

early use (& need for) drayage

or transfer of equipment from

the baggage cars to the theater

by teamsters (before & after

draught teams) & often roughly

handled (kinda like jabronis)
