Gloria Drew (JRN’s then-girl friend) in her big scene with Cornel Wilde. According to David Lewis Hammarstrom’s book BIG TOP BOSS, JOHN RINGLING NORTH AND THE CIRCUS, Gloria was a Georgia girl who was selling tickets in a small-town movie house when North first encountered her. For several years, she lived the good life with him, including traveling with him through Europe while he scouted new acts for the Circus. North eventually ended the relationship and, to soften the blow, had the Ringling family help her seek a career as a singer. (Shades of Susan Alexander Kane!) Gloria eventually ended up back in Georgia, where she did NOT live happily ever after. |

Another example of where the backstory is more interesting than the one we see. ~frank
That's Truzzi behind Cornel Wilde (he's holding up a couple of silver basketballs).

Truzzi is just over Sebastian's shoulder.
Interesting to note the outdoor upright back there.
The outdoor upright was I was placed for those out door scenes. I just had to do practice trapeze as back ground. That was what DeMille wanted and I really go in good shape doing that. I can hardly see the upright in the film. This is a bout the best still shot and I can just barely see me on the trap if I look real good. Everyone that doubled was used as extras and they are all over the place if you can find them. I can only find myself in a few shots. These stills have really been interesting to me for that particular reason alone. Jackie LeClaire
