Sue Lenz said...: Jumbo was really Sauce the elephant, the last of the George Lockhart “Cruet set” of four elephants, Salt, Sauce, Mustard & Pepper.

When there were only two left, Salt & Sauce they toured England for a lot of years with many different owners.
After Salt died Harry Cody bought Sauce in 1954. I along with my parents and Norman Barrett were with Cody’s Circus at that time also the 1955 season.

Jamie & Jim Clubb have written a most interesting book about the life of these elephants called, The Legend of Salt & Sauce.

According to this book, Sauce died in 1957.; 23 May, 2011 14:10
