A 1-year-old boy was in critical condition after falling from the stands at a circus performance in the Bronx on Friday, officials said.
The tot had been sitting in his mother's lap about 10:30 a.m. when he fell. It wasn't immediately clear how high up in the stands the mother and child were sitting.
Emergency workers raced to the tents of the UniverSoul Circus on W. 149th St. near Major Deegan Expressway in the South Bronx.
A spokeswoman at Lincoln Hospital said he was still being evaluated. No other details were immediately available.
The Atlanta-based one-ring circus was launched 17 years ago with primarily African-American performers. It now features elephants, tigers and dogs. It also has 12 acts with 75 performers from around the world
