During 1930-31, Martin and Osa Johnson made their third trip through Africa, obtaining film footage in Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda and the Congo basin for their feature film CONGORILLA. As part of their crew, they brought along sound technicians who were able to obtain field recordings of the grunts, snorts, roars, snarls, barks, and bellows produced by the various animals they filmed. In addition, sound recordings of singing, dancing, drumming, etc. were made in the villages of the various native tribes they encountered. Released in 1932, CONGORILLA was the first sound movie made entirely in Africa. |

Eric: Did you obtain these pics through the Safari Museum In Chanute?
Paul Gutheil
Actually, they are film frames taken from a DVD of CONGORILLA that I purchased from the Museum.
