(A 1935 photo of Adele and her trick horse “Daisy.”) Adele was able to save up enough money to purchase a small piece of land in North Olmsted, just west of Cleveland and not far from the Cleveland Airport. Her property was located on the edge of the Rocky River Valley, which is part of the Cleveland Metropolitan Park system. She called her place The Parker Ranch. It was not uncommon for the ranch to serve as a temporary refuge for unemployed cowboys, trick ropers, clowns, bronc riders, groups of Indians, and circus performers, who would stage impromptu shows in order to earn enough money to move on to the next town. Adele also made her ranch into a haven for sick and injured animals. |
