In 1929, Adele took her own show on the road. Arriving in Cleveland for an engagement at the Palace Theater, she learned that the booking had been cancelled. With seven horses and a rabbit to feed, and only 70 cents in her purse, she decided to open a riding school. Calling all the newspapers, she informed them that that a thirsty giant rabbit was in a soda shop, drinking a milkshake from a straw. A news photo showing Adele and her rabbit generated so much publicity, that she was able to open her school the next day with a handful of students. |
