Parker-5, originally uploaded by bucklesw1. In 1929, Adele took her own show on the road. Arriving in Cleveland for an engagement at the Palace Theater, she learned that the booking had been cancelled. With seven horses and a rabbit to feed, and only 70 cents in her purse, she decided to open a riding school. Calling all the newspapers, she informed them that that a thirsty giant rabbit was in a soda shop, drinking a milkshake from a straw. A news photo showing Adele and her rabbit generated so much publicity, that she was able to open her school the next day with a handful of students.
