Disney On Ice #11

This dovetailed into the arrival of Zorro, who made his entrance to the theme music from the Disney TV series from the 1950s. (If you’re over 59, you probably remember the lyrics: “Out of the night, when the full moon is bright, comes a horseman known as Zorro.”) First, Zorro performed a fast skating routine to an up-tempo version of “Espana Cani.” Then he did that most traditional of all ice show turns: BARREL JUMPING, performed to “Children of Sanchez” and a reprise of the Zorro TV theme.

The next time DISNEY’S WORLD ON ICE returned to San Diego, the saxophone parts were tape, putting an end to my brief career as an ice show musician.

By 1980, the public's interest in traditional ice shows was starting to wane. By revising the format into a show aimed at little kids and their parents, the Felds were able to keep ice shows from fading from the scene. (I understand that they have a number of units touring in both the U.S. and Europe.)
