The Boys From Baraboo #2

"The Boys From Baraboo" is the title of a Musical produced and composed by the locals of that fair city some years ago and presented from time to time at the Al Ringling Theater.
I've attended several performances. It deals with their early years when
they first toured as Music Hall performers and their arguments with
their parents, associates and girl friends as to whether or not they should take out a circus.
The music is quite good.

In the years preceding THE CIRCUS KINGS, by Henry Ringling North and Alden Hatch, engaging history of the brothers, active in their respective specialties, is described by Fred Bradna, in his epic work, THE BIG TOP. For 42 years Equestrian Director of their Greatest Show On Earth, Bradna had also served James A. Bailey, and survived in his position during the combine. His intimate depiction of John Ringling is the best I've seen in print. I have long respected his encyclopedic recounting, elegantly styled by Hartzell Spence, as a circus primer of the first order.
