P. T, Barnum Statue.7 - 2010, originally uploaded by bucklesw1.

As per Chic Silber's request....

Old P.T. Barnum is standing proudly in front of the Bethel Public Library, welcoming one and all to his hometown of Bethel Connecticut.

The unveiling ceremony actually took place on Sunday, September 26, and not today, Friday, October 1 as I had previously read.

According to the Danbury News-Times, close to one thousand people attended the unveiling of Bethel's statue of P. T. Barnum. I am sure P. T. himself, would have been pleased by all the pomp and ceremony, and of ! course, the honor, but he might have described it a bit differently, s aying that there were tens of thousands in attendance.

Ringling Brothers sent P.T. Barnum impersonator, Todd Ziimmerman, and three clowns to aid sculptor David Gesualdi in unveiling the six foot three bronze sculpture in front of the Bethel Library.

Several foundry workers from the Polich Tallix Foundry in Newburgh, New York, where the bronze sculpture was cast also attended the unveiling.

The turnout for the unveiling at the library was dwarfed by the crowd of spectators that lined Greenwood Avenue for P. T. Barnum's birthday parade.

An estimated crowd of several thousand spectators viewed the parade, which paid homage to the prodigious promoter, and founder of "The Greatest Show on Earth". There were a contingent of clowns scattered among marching! bands, civic organizations, horse-drawn carriages, and horseless carriages. Circus performers were prominent participants,

About the clowns in this photo: My father told me that if I can't find anything good to say don't say anything, but I never listened to Dad. I think that a white jam face, brown nose, Bozo looking COA clown with one of those squirting flowers in his lapel would have been more appropriate for this historical moment.

Sad showing of today's clowns

Was Barnum actually 6'3" or was

that only what he claimed

These clowns are probably very funny and talented performers, but as they say in Haines City: The funny clowns don’t get their pictures took. Maybe that’s why my face is not on a coffee mug or an ash tray.

Isn't that Chuck Wagner on the left, ringmaster of the 136th and 138th editions? He both looks and acts the role of ringmaster, having one of the very best voices for the job.

I believe old P.T. was closer to six feet tall and I can't imagine him being caught dead in that red and black outfit...there is something to be said for authenticity...even in our business

base accounts for the 3"

I guess Chris Allison's 13 years on the big show don't make him worthy of pointing at a statue for $300, Chic?

Chris Allison is one of the funniest clowns, in or out of makeup, working in America today.

The person playing P.T. Barnum is NOT Chuck Wagner. It appears to be another CC alumnus, former Blue Show clown Todd Zimmerman.

Clearly some dumb anony thoght I

was talking about Chris when I

mentioned "clowns" but as I don't

know Chris OR that he is a clown

that was a wrong assumption

Please pay attention

Hats off to all of the clowns out there doing it, I am in no position the criticize anyone. Dropping in on Circus blogs brings me back to the best time of my life, (outside of my wife and kids) and because of how things have turned out, if I had the chance to do it all over again I wouldn’t change a thing. But as I drop in, as I said before: I could've had class, I coulda been a contender, I could've been somebody.
