From Henry Penndorf #1

108th Edition (1978) Ringling Program

Hi Bill,

I was looking through several of my older Ringling Brothers programs, when in the 108th Edition (1978) program I noticed something in the "Program of Displays" that I had never noticed before. If you read the introduction for the second display you will read a marvelous example circus ballyhoo and illiteration, but the introduction wasn't complete, the name of the of the performer was omitted. I think even the most casual circus goer would know that the man who they were referring to was Charly Baumann. It started me to thinking if in all these years anyone else noticed that?

Hi, Henry. I sure did notice it. You're not the only one. I've got the 108th Edition Souvenir Program & Magazine from 1979 instead of 1978. Mine has Charley Baumann featured in the Program of Displays for 2) Phalanx of Fearsome Felines along with his picture right next to it. Lazlo Axt is omitted in Ring Three for 3) Aerial Astonishments and is replaced by The Spider Web. However, 14) Ethereal Endeavor has Lazlo Axt which was after Clown Charivari for 13) Clown-astic Champions and before Neptune's Circus for 15) Enchanting Undersea Spectacle. Elvin Bale who was the headliner on the Blue Unit with The Greatest Show on Earth for the 108th Edition who's on the front cover isn't even inside and mentioned at all or listed in the Program of Displays since I know he did the Wheel of Death and was the Human Cannonball. The others that are omitted in the Program of Displays are the clown acts including 5) Riotous Rhapsody, 10) Clown Car Capers, 16) Height of Hilarity, 18) The Clown Corps de Ballet, 21) Captains of Caprice and 25) Comedy Cut-ups.
